Despite bookmarks, social media, etc…, domain names are still very important to the success of the websites and blogs built upon them. A great domain name can be the difference between a successful website or blog and one that is doomed to become a failure. If you were to ask someone “Where did you get that great shirt?” and they said “I got it at this really great website called superstorename.com.” it is likely to be remembered by that person and they in turn might visit that website to see what they offer. On the other hand if you asked someone the same question and they replied by saying “I faved a Tweet by someone I came across online and there was a website link in one of their previous Tweets and I followed that link and found this great online store who’s domain name I can’t remember.” then it is highly unlikely that you will receive a visit to your website because there is not a memorable domain name they will remember. Now before we go further into why a great domain name matters, I think I should outline some things that help define what a “great domainREAD MORE !
In today’s world, social media is a main source of getting your ideas, passions, hobbies, information and more seen by millions of people around the world. If you have your own website or blog site then using social media can be a key component in driving traffic to your website or blog site. The many social media websites, especially the larger ones like Twitter, Facebook and Google+, have millions of people that use them daily. This means the potential to get your posts on these websites seen by all these people is huge. Now, I for one, can understand why so many companies, websites and people make many postings on these social media sites. However, when do the number of Tweets, Shares and every other postings become just too much? When and where is the line drawn between doing great promoting and going too far? The answer doesn’t really have a definite line as to what is too much and what is adequate. Without a definite answer, as it’s impossible to determine exactly, each person, company and website needs to think about what message they want to send to their followers, friends, etc. on these social media websites.READ MORE !
When you are considering starting your own website or blog one of the first things that you need to think about is what domain name you will be using for it. If you don’t know what a domain name is, a domain name is the web address that you type into your web browser window to take you to a particular website. Something like google.com, ulterios.com and so on. The domain name that you choose to use for your website or blog is more important than many people think. This article will point out a couple of the reasons why the domain name and the spelling of the name that you use for your website or blog should be considered to be very important, and why you should put some serious thought into which domain name you choose to use for your site. First off, the domain name that you choose to use for your website or blog is the name that you will be known by as far as your website visitors and potential website visitors. Lately I have seen a big growth in the amount of new people dabbling in domain investing or, better known as domaining. One thing that seems to happen to just about every new domainer (someone who buys domain names for the purpose of selling them for a profit) is that they jump right in and start buying up domain names that they think will make them the most profit. The thing that most forget to do is the needed research that every domain buyer (especially someone new to domain buying) should do before buying that great new domain name. A common mistake that many new domainers do is that they will register a domain that is a Trademark violation for a current Trademark holder. Most people who have never bought a domain before don’t realize that just because a domain is available, that doesn’t mean that you should buy it. If you are to invest your money, no matter if it’s a $.99 .com domain that you are getting at GoDaddy.com using a discount registration code or if you are buying from a private party or elsewhere, you want to make sure that that investment isn’t lost or worse,READ MORE !
I bought a domain name a couple of weeks ago that was a drop/expired domain. I got it for registration fee (the regular cost to register the domain) and it is a good, dictionary word domain. I did my normal research on the domain before I bought it and everything looked good except that it had nothing in the Google index. It was parked (basically just an advertising site) for the previous 6-9 months so I wasn’t sure if that was why it wasn’t indexed. Since it was a good dictionary word that was great for the purpose I wanted it for I went ahead and took a chance since it only cost registration fee. I didn’t have much to lose, other than a few bucks. I had plans to develop the domain into a website so I installed WordPress and went ahead and slapped up a contact and a couple of other pages just for temporary use. I then went and added it to my Google Webmasters account and got it verified. I submitted the pages and by the next day nothing had showed up in Google yet. Usually the pages that get submitted to Google get indexed quicklyREAD MORE !
In this installment of “My Featured Website” I will be talking about a website that most people know about and have used at one time or another, that website is youtube.com. This is the worlds largest and most popular video sharing and watching website. A little fact about you tube that most people don’t know is that youtube.com is the #3 website in the world (at the time this article was written) as far as the amount of website traffic (visitors) that youtube.com gets. It might be hard to believe that youtube.com is the #2 website in the whole world, but it is. Microsoft’s big search engine website bing.com is only #36 in the world. Youtube.com is behind Google.com in the number 1 spot and is currently ahead of Facebook.com in the number 3 spot in the amount of visitors to their website. Youtube was created in February 2005 by three former Paypal employees. Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim created Youtube after having trouble finding video clips of Janet Jackson’s famous 2004 NFL Superbowl incident and of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that killed almost a quarter of a million people. They wanted a video file sharingREAD MORE !
Well in this installment of “My Featured Website”, I thought I would feature Newegg.com. One reason I thought I would feature this website is because I love electronics of all kinds, especially computers and Newegg has tons of awesome things for an electronics enthusiast to check out. If you love electronics, especially then this is a MUST SEE website. Newegg has been around well over a decade and is one of the top online electronics retailers, specializing in computer hardware and software. I have been shopping at Newegg for quite a while and they always have great prices on the products they carry. What sets them apart is how great their customer service is and how well they operate. If you ever order anything from them, it is shipped out very quickly and very well packaged. This means a lot since they sell a lot of computer hardware that doesn’t respond well to being handled roughly. I have never received anything that had any damage of any kind. Kudos to their packaging department! Recently I had decided to upgrade my RAM since my sweet Lenovo laptop computer was lagging a bit due to me using way too manyREAD MORE !
