Despite bookmarks, social media, etc…, domain names are still very important to the success of the websites built upon them. A great domain name can be the difference between a successful website or blog and one that is doomed to become a failure. If you were to ask someone “Where did you get that great shirt?” and they said “I got it at this really great website called superstorename.com.” it is likely to be remembered by that person and they in turn might visit that website to see what they offer. On the other hand if you asked someone the same question and they replied by saying “I faved a Tweet by someone I came across online and there was a website link in one of their previous Tweets and I followed that link and found this great online store who’s domain name I can’t remember.” then it is highly unlikely that you will receive a visit to your website because there is not a memorable domain name they will remember. Now before we go further into why a great domain name matters, I think I should outline some things that help define what a “great domain name” is.READ MORE !
I have been building websites and blog sites since way back in the 1990’s. I have also spent an unbelievable amount of time looking at different websites and blogs ever since I first got online and started browsing since the early 90’s. Over the years I have seen a countless number of websites and blogs, both good and bad. Now since I have spent so much of my lifetime online I often get asked, what makes a good website or blog? My usual answer to that question is, you can just tell if one is good by going to it and looking around! Since I usually give an answer that really doesn’t give much information to whoever asks me what makes a website or blog good, I thought I should maybe outline some key things that help me in my judgment on how good a website or blog is. The saying “You can’t judge a book by it’s cover” is unfortunately, something that I don’t necessarily adhere to when passing judgment on a website or blog. I do tend to look at how nice the site looks and that figures into my perception of that particular site. I’m onlyREAD MORE !
In today’s modern online world it seems that everywhere that you look someone is trying to sell you one thing or another, and that’s just about all they seem to care about. My belief is a bit different. Don’t get me wrong, I like to make money as much as the next person, but I have learned that building relationships with customers or potential customers can make you more money and be more rewarding in the long run. I have owned a couple of different business in my life, and they were all successful. I owe part of my success in business to the fact that I didn’t treat everyone like they were a wallet I was hoping to pry open as fast as possible. I was raised around my grandfather, a business owner himself, who had taught me that if you treat people with respect and go out of your way to show them that respect and that you value them as a customer of yours, it will pay off in the long run. Yes, these practices don’t always get you the quick bucks, but they will get customers to come back for more of your products orREAD MORE !
These days it seems like just about everyone either has, or wants to start their own blog or website. So many changes over the last several years have made it a lot easier for anyone one who wants their own site, to have one. Some people want to have their own site so that they can share their knowledge, experiences, information as well as lots of other things. Other people want their own website or blog to make money, whether it’s some extra spending cash or enough to live off of. No matter what the reason that you want to have your own site, the most important factor that can and will determine the success of your site is choosing the niche that is best for you. When people are trying to decide what niche they want to have their site in, sometimes that choice is a tough one to make. However, it doesn’t have to be a tough choice if you just take a step back and consider some choosing points. First, one of the main keys to having a successful website or blog site is having accurate and appropriate content (articles, stories, etc.) on your site.READ MORE !
There’s an old saying that I am sure most people out there have heard. It’s the saying that “You only get one chance to make a first impression”. That saying is so true! However, many website and blog site owners don’t realize that the very same saying, which wasn’t talking about anything other than when you first meet someone, also is true for websites and blog sites. When someone first comes to your website or blog, what’s the first impression that you want your site to make? Do you want them to think “Wow, nice site!” or something like “If you’ve seen one of these site’s, then you’ve seen them all!”? Personally, I would prefer the first choice of “Wow, nice site!”, and I am sure that most website and blog owners would like that as well. The feeling of having people come to your own site for the first time and being impressed at what they first initially see can be a great feeling for any site owner. Most website and blog owners want to standout from other sites and make an impression with their site visitors that is lasting. Most site owners want to be originalREAD MORE !
Although not everyone will easily admit it, everyone does make mistakes. This is just part of life and the lessons that we must learn in our lives. If we don’t learn from our mistakes, what is to prevent us for repeating those same mistakes again? You know, sometimes making mistakes is just plain unavoidable. We try and try to do everything right in our lives but at some point or another, we WILL make mistakes. All we can do in life is to try our best to avoid making too many and try not to make any really big mistakes, especially the ones that are avoidable and beyond our control. We all try to avoid making mistakes because they can sometimes hurt physically, mentally or even financially. The thing that we need to do is to think about what exactly it is that we did wrong and try to remember what that was so that we can try to avoid the same mistake happening again in the future. A famous Roman politician and philosopher named Cicero (Marcus Tullius Cicero) has a famous quote that is one of my favorite quotes. It says “Any man can make mistakes, but onlyREAD MORE !
Recently I have come across thread postings on a couple of different web forum websites that I am a member on that had topics and stories of sellers not going through with a transaction for something that the seller had listed up for auction on a website. The sellers had stated to the winning bidders, that they were not going to go through with a sale because they didn’t get a good enough winning bid for them to complete the transaction. These were what is called a “No-Reserve” auction. Now, in a “No-Reserve” auction a seller lists their product/item/etc. for sale and they are supposed to sell it to the winning bidder, no matter what the winning bid amount is. These type of auction listings are usually put up by the seller as a “No-Reserve” auction so that it will draw more attention to their auction listing, thus increasing the potential for more bidders on their auction listing and hopefully a higher price that they would have gotten with a “Reserve Price” auction. A “No-Reserve” auction draws more attention than an auction for a product/item/service that has a set reserve price (a minimum price of which a seller isREAD MORE !
