I have been building websites and blog sites since way back in the 1990’s. I have also spent an unbelievable amount of time looking at different websites and blogs ever since I first got online and started browsing since the early 90’s. Over the years I have seen a countless number of websites and blogs, both good and bad. Now since I have spent so much of my lifetime online I often get asked, what makes a good website or blog? My usual answer to that question is, you can just tell if one is good by going to it and looking around! Since I usually give an answer that really doesn’t give much information to whoever asks me what makes a website or blog good, I thought I should maybe outline some key things that help me in my judgment on how good a website or blog is. The saying “You can’t judge a book by it’s cover” is unfortunately, something that I don’t necessarily adhere to when passing judgment on a website or blog. I do tend to look at how nice the site looks and that figures into my perception of that particular site. I’m onlyREAD MORE !

There’s an old saying that I am sure most people out there have heard. It’s the saying that “You only get one chance to make a first impression”. That saying is so true! However, many website and blog site owners don’t realize that the very same saying, which wasn’t talking about anything other than when you first meet someone, also is true for websites and blog sites. When someone first comes to your website or blog, what’s the first impression that you want your site to make? Do you want them to think “Wow, nice site!” or something like “If you’ve seen one of these site’s, then you’ve seen them all!”? Personally, I would prefer the first choice of “Wow, nice site!”, and I am sure that most website and blog owners would like that as well. The feeling of having people come to your own site for the first time and being impressed at what they first initially see can be a great feeling for any site owner. Most website and blog owners want to standout from other sites and make an impression with their site visitors that is lasting. Most site owners want to be originalREAD MORE !
I bought a domain name a couple of weeks ago that was a drop/expired domain. I got it for registration fee (the regular cost to register the domain) and it is a good, dictionary word domain. I did my normal research on the domain before I bought it and everything looked good except that it had nothing in the Google index. It was parked (basically just an advertising site) for the previous 6-9 months so I wasn’t sure if that was why it wasn’t indexed. Since it was a good dictionary word that was great for the purpose I wanted it for I went ahead and took a chance since it only cost registration fee. I didn’t have much to lose, other than a few bucks. I had plans to develop the domain into a website so I installed WordPress and went ahead and slapped up a contact and a couple of other pages just for temporary use. I then went and added it to my Google Webmasters account and got it verified. I submitted the pages and by the next day nothing had showed up in Google yet. Usually the pages that get submitted to Google get indexed quicklyREAD MORE !
Like many people out there on the internet, I started my website / blog as just a way to express some thoughts, ideas, viewpoints and whatever else I wanted to share with the world. As time has gone by and the number of people who come and visit my site has increased I had pondered the idea of putting up some advertising on my site. I thought that if I did decide to put up some advertising on my site I wasn’t intending to do it to get rich or make a living or anything but just to maybe help cover the costs of my web hosting service for the site and possibly the renewal fees for my domain name. I had many things cross my mind about putting ads on my site so I thought I would share those thoughts and ideas so that if someone else had those same thoughts and ideas the information here might help them to make the decision or weather or not to place advertising on their website or blog. My first thought about placing advertising on this site was that I didn’t want this site to come off as just anotherREAD MORE !
I thought I would write an article about domain names (Internet Addresses) and web hosting service since they are both something I know about. Now don’t misunderstand me, I don’t know everything there is to know about domain names and web hosting but I do know more than the average person does. I have owned many domain names over the last decade and a half and have learned quite a bit about them. The same goes for web hosting service. In this article I will share some of my knowledge and experiences about these two things with all of you reading this article. First let me start off by discussing domain names since you will need a domain name or names before you will need a web hosting provider. If you decide you want to start your own website or blog and you want to take it seriously as well as have others take it seriously you will need to buy your own domain name. You can get a free sub-domain name if you use the free hosting providers like weebly.com, blogger.com and other similar type of sites but if you want people to take you more seriously thenREAD MORE !
